I'm reading Twilight to my brother, and I'm picking up on details that I haven't noticed before. In chapter 18, The Hunt, when Edward's taking Bella out of town Bella screams that Charlie will call the FBI and they will have to hide for a long time, and Edward tells to to calm down, they've been there before. What do you think this incident was? Will it be of some significance?

Umm. . . I think that when he was talking about the FBI, and how they had to leave before, he was referring to when Emmett attacked a human girl that appealed to him. . . You know how Edward had told Bella of how Emmett had come across a scent that appealed to him, like hers does to Edward. . . That's one of the only thing that I can think of. I'm not sure if it will have some significance, but you might hear of it again. . .

That's a thought, I was thinking it might have been after Rosalie changed. I just wanted to hear what others thought it could be. Good idea. ^-^

It could have been from when Emmett attacked both of the girls. There were two instances where he attacked two seperate people. Right when Bella says "We all fall off the wagon"

It could be from Emmett, Esme, Jasper or Alice. Emmett and Esme both met their singers (and proceeded to feast on them) and Jasper and Alice both led carnivorous diets for some time--and we know how hard it is for Jasper to resist.

Oh yeah, i never considered Esme for the FBI hunting. Maybe its because shes so sweet and motherly. Jasper or Emmett I could see as being hunted, but i'm not too sure about Alice. I dont like the idea of her being a killer.

Rosalie's serial murders may have caused it. I can really see FBI being attracted to so many connected deaths more than I could a single death here and there.

Well he doesn't say that the FBI were still on the case, just that he and his family have been put through that situation before. . . The situation could've happened a very long time ago. . .
I never thought about Rosalie as the one to cause that. . . I guess it could've been from when Carlisle had changed her. I mean she was a well known person, but could that really have been it? I mean, when I read that part of the book I thought that he was talking about his family as a whole. . .

Okay, this is a theory... I'm not saying that there wasn't a situation where the FBI was actually after the Cullens but...
We all know from Eclipse (Well, New Moon, too), that Edward's greatest fault is overreaction.
So, here comes the theory part: 1) It was a hyperbole for any time they had to leave somewhere for any reason 2) He was just trying to calm Bella down by pretending something had happened and they were prepared for anything that could.
I dunno. Just some new blood thrown out there for people to fight about
(no pun intended ;D)

Well when Edward was changed he was in the Hostipal with his mom, nurses and other doctors probably saw him, and Carlisle did say that he was dead, but his body was never found. Also the Rosalie murderous rampage, and Esme throwing herself off a cliff.

Well when Edward was changed he was in the Hostipal with his mom, nurses and other doctors probably saw him, and Carlisle did say that he was dead, but his body was never found. Also the Rosalie murderous rampage, and Esme throwing herself off a cliff. During 1918-1919 over 20 million people died, many practically overnight. Not finding a body would bother no one considering how Edward's family was dead so no one would be searching for him and no one else knew or cared about him. For Rosalie, the FBI was fairly nascent still by that time. Such murders would have probably been left to city or state authorities. However, FBI could have intervened here. Esme was completely alone. Her injuries should have killed her. As with Edward, she ha d no one to look after a body to bury so no questions would be raised.

You all bring up amazing points that i never really thought about till now, but what if something had happened while the Cullens were in Alaska? Edward never really mensions any events or the other vampires in Alaska. So it brings up a little suspision in my mind that something must have happened in Alaska.
But i guess the only person that would really know this answer is Stephenie Meyer.

I agree. I also think that Edward might mean just police or something. He does say a lot of half-truths.
